Hello and Welcome!
Joy Valentine, M.S.W.
These days of the Covid-19 pandemic that we are all attempting to live through is unprecedented in our lifetime. There are very few human beings alive today who have a frame of reference for this kind of crisis.
And it is truly a crisis for many, if not most, of us, but it is a crisis that takes different forms and varies in its intensity.
For some of us, it is a crisis of identity and lifestyle, as our source of work is threatened. For others of us it is a crisis of our life, our very physical survival, as we are displaced from our homes to the street in an environment that literally threatens our lives. And for many others it is a crisis of deep grief at the loss of loved ones in the deadly grip of this virus. Some are wondering if this is not only a crisis in the evolution of our species, but also of the planet.
For those of us fortunate enough to not worry about breathing and eating and having a safe place to sleep, it can be a time of reflection, of re-evaluating our deepest values, our loves in all their forms and the trajectory of our journey here as we attempt to demonstrate those values or to avoid them, either consciously or unconsciously.
Through it all, we do have each other, if we will but reach as we struggle to find new ground in this uncharted land. That new ground can and will be found. We humans are very resilient, creative, adaptable and more powerful than we realize in our ordinary moments. These moments now are extraordinary, and the realization of our true power is the inherent gift.
I welcome your reach and the opportunity to help pave your way on this new path and to realize that which is your gift.
